Simmons, Parker and Hagan-Burke Receive Special Education Training Grant Focusing on Hispanic Issues
COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – Dr. Deb Simmons, affiliated professor with the Center on Disability and Development, has received a doctoral training grant from the U.S. Department of Education, along with two of her colleagues, Rich Parker and Shanna Hagan-Burke.
The grant, " Intervention Scientists in Special Education (ISSE)," is set to begin in September and will prepare 10 doctoral students over the next four years for positions as researchers in higher education. It will focus on school interventions for students with disabilities and at-risk students, with a specialization in Hispanic issues. The doctoral students will take required coursework in special education, bilingual education, school psychology and research methods.
