Special Education Teachers Sought for Master's Program in Low-Incidence Disabilities

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – The Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University is actively recruiting experienced special education teachers for a part-time master's program in low-incidence disabilities––intellectual disabilities, autism, developmental delay, traumatic brain injury or multiple disabilities.

Since 1998, the master’s program in low-incidence disabilities has admitted 99 students, garnered 68 graduates and currently instructs 28 current students. Participants will graduate with a master's of education in educational psychology with certification in low-incidence disabilities. The program is interdisciplinary in nature and will include coursework from a variety of programs within Texas A&M University. All students in the program will participate in extensive practicum experiences with students with low-incidence disabilities.

To qualify for admission to the program, participants must have a undergraduate degree in education, teacher certification, admission into the Texas A&M graduate school and a minimum of one year of teaching experience in the field of special education. They will receive a stipend of $13,000 for one full year of study (fall, spring and summer) with additional stipends available for courses taken online or at a distance. Participants are also allotted travel stipends of $1,000 to attend conferences in area of low-incidence disabilities.

Participants normally complete this 36-hour degree in low-incidence disabilities within five semesters of coursework.
